Housing & Neighborhoods

Built Environment Vision

Plano is a vibrant city with attractive and walkable neighborhoods, distinct mixed-use urban centers with active nightlife, strong commercial corridors, and a multimodal transportation system that includes a variety of transit options.

Housing & Neighborhoods Policies and Actions

Plano has many successful, established residential neighborhoods with a variety of housing options. The Housing & Neighborhoods component is part of the Built Environment and includes policies for neighborhood conservation, redevelopment of neighborhoods centers, and special housing needs.

Review the video to learn more about the Housing & Neighborhoods component. The three policies below include the action statements that are necessary to achieve the Built Environment vision. Individual policy pages include a preference survey and visitors are encouraged to participate by prioritizing the policies!
Neighborhood Conservation
Plano will conserve and enhance established residential neighborhoods through city programs, initiatives, and regulations that support neighborhood identity; ensure safe, walkable communities; and preserve the suburban form that contributes to the overall character and livability of the neighborhoods.

Special Needs Housing
Plano will accommodate senior and special needs housing through inclusive regulations and the goals stated in the Consolidated Plan.

Redevelopment of Neighborhood Centers
Plano will encourage investment in and redevelopment of underperforming developments within neighborhood centers to accommodate local commercial, retail, and entertainment uses within walking distance of surrounding residents.
